Our Approach

 Our Mission

The Genetics and Personalized Cancer Prevention Program (GPCP) is committed to identifying individuals with an increased lifetime risk for cancer and creating personalized cancer prevention and management plans Desk Photo

SCREENING & INTERVENTION

We will recommend imaging, procedures and/or lab tests to identify cancer early or use medical interventions to reduce the risk of cancer developing.

SPECIALTY REFERRALS

We will facilitate referrals to specialists for additional evaluations, treatment or other follow-up. This may include consultation with oncologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, or dermatologists with expertise in specific disorders or sites of disease.

CHEMOMPREVENTION

Chemoprevention refers to the use of specific drugs, natural compounds, or other agents to reduce the risk of developing cancer in individuals who have not yet developed the disease, as well as to prevent the recurrence of cancer in individuals with a history of cancer or precancerous conditions.

An application of precision medicine in oncology is a targeted cancer intervention. This refers to a treatment approach that specifically aims at molecular or genetic features of cancer cells, distinguishing them from normal cells. This method enhances the effectiveness of treatment while minimizing damage to healthy tissues.

We understand that cancer prevention is about more than just physical health — your emotional, practical, and social well-being are equally important. Our dedicated genetic social worker offers behavioral health services that provide comprehensive and personalized support.

We offer ongoing monitoring and management of patients over time, often spanning months or years. This approach involves tracking patients' health status, treatment responses, and outcomes over time to ensure continuity of care, assess the effectiveness of interventions, and detect any changes or developments in their medical condition.

FAMILY CASCADE TESTING

We appreciate that genetic testing impacts both the person being tested and their family. Our program offers a signature service through which we facilitate genetic education and testing for the relatives of a patient who has a positive genetic test result.
